Post pregnancy weight loss. So you want to get that slim and slender body you’ve always wanted?

Having recently given birth you might feel like there’s no hope of ever regaining that body you once knew and to successfully loose the weight again.

The average woman will gain between 25 to 30 pounds during pregnancy. But actually childbirth itself results in an immediate weight loss of approximately 12 to 14 pounds, consisting of amniotic fluid, the placenta and, of course, the baby!

It’s recommended that you take at least 6 to 8 weeks rest after childbirth to give your body a good chance to recover. Your body has been through a lot of strain during pregnancy and needs good recovery time.

Once your body has the rest it needs you can ease your way into a weight loss programme. Be realistic about your weight loss goals; 2 pounds of weight loss per week is a realistic figure. Although it may be possibly to lose more weight, it can have a detrimental effect on your health.

Remember; your body is your temple. Although often an overused saying, it remains completely true. Give your body the rest it needs and the nutrients it needs and it will look after you.

Your body needs a good amount of nutrients to provide your body with the energy it needs at a time when it is under most stress.

If you’re breastfeeding don’t worry too much about calorie counting after giving birth, since your baby is relying on you through for good nutrition and ultimately good health. As such it’s recommended that you intake at least 1800 calories per day.

Now is also a really time to start a well balanced diet to lay the foundations of a good long-term diet. The best way to do this is to eat well balanced meals approximately every 3 hours. This will also keep your metabolism and energy levels high and consistent.

Many women consider breastfeeding itself to be the biggest secret; burning off up to 500 calories per day!

Don’t forget; it’s never too soon to start exercising! Providing you give your body the amount of rest it needs, there no harm in getting some gentle daily exercise such as walking. Taking a gentle walk every day can help get you back into shape and also help to boost energy levels.

Another great way to lose weight and tone up is to start some exercise classes; Yoga and Pilates are both excellent ways to start to firm and tighten your body.

I recently came across a post pregnancy weight loss programme that’s highly effective. Click here to see for yourself.
