Monitor your traffic with LiveZilla
Firstly, an apology to anyone that couldn't read yesterdays blog post on "Thinking of using Bartercard". To check for spelling and grammar mistakes I copied it into MS Word for a full health check. Upon pasting it back into my blog a load of waffle had been copied over into the HTML.
I realised this when my Life Coach was unable to see just that particular blog post. I think the problem was only for Internet Explorer users. Thanks for spotting that one Mark!
Today I want to share with you a fantastic piece of software that we've been using to monitor the Design Buds website.
It's completely freeware and really useful for a number of reasons:
- It allows you to monitor traffic to your website 'live' as visitors land on the site
- It allows you to offer 'live support' to your visitors through a chat system
We installed LiveZilla back in October last year when the company launched. The original reason for installing it was to offer live chat sales support to our visitors. But we quickly realised its potential for visitor monitoring and tracking.
There are two parts to the software; server side and client side.
The server side installation installs onto the server of the website. The client side installs onto your computer to allow visitor monitoring. Also, you can allow multiple people access to the client software on any number of machines.
Providing your visitors have JavaScript enabled, when a visitor lands on the site we get a notification pop-up discreetly at the bottom of our screen.
The software tells us quite a bit of information about the visitor;
- Their geographical location on a world map (this is the location of their Internet provider)
- The referring URL which landed the visitor on the site
- The search string that landed them on the site (if the visitor came through a search engine)
- How many times they have visited the site, or if it is their first visit
- How many pages they have looked at on their visit
- The page they're currently on
- Their IP address
- Their computer operating system and Internet browser version
- Their time zone
- Plus their screen resolution!
The other really cool thing about the software is that you can send your visitors a chat request. Whilst they're browsing your website a box will pop-up on their screen asking if they want to chat. The user can select yes or no.
During a chat the visitor can 'rate' the person they are chatting to. This could be particularly useful if you have say 10 or more people that use the system to aid your support system.
Go ahead and grab your copy of LiveZilla from the Official Website. As I said it's completely free and a really fantastic piece of software that we've been using for about 5 months now.
See you Monday at 09:00
Simon
