IP Phone Calls 999

So yesterday I mentioned that we're going to ditch the IP phones due to unreliability.

Yesterday my business partner got a visit from the police. Apparently one of our IP phones had dialed the emergency services. Under our account we set the address where our device is installed. We have updated the device to our new office address but this hadn't updated.

We've looked into our phone logs and can't see either 999 or 112 having been dialed.

The Police are currently carrying out an investigation as to what caused the problem. We're sifting through our logs to see where and why the call happened. But according to our logs no calls were even placed at the time the call was supposedly placed.

This problem's never happened before so luckily it's not a regular occurrence.

So if you are using an IP phone for business use:

  • Make sure you keep your emergency response address updated. Otherwise if ever there is a problem, help will go to the wrong address.
  • Most IP phones have a bandwidth saver option. If you're experiencing call quality problems adjust the bandwidth settings to improve quality.

Lets hope for less problems today!
See you tomorrow at 09:00

Simon
