Day 14 - Thursday 29 January 2009
It's been just two weeks since I started this project and I've made great progress:
I've learnt that a good source of organic traffic for a website is article submission. But, not just one or two. You need to start hitting at least 30 - 40 articles before the articles start bringing in some good traffic. Writing 30 - 40 articles may seem like a very daunting task, but if you can write an article every day it'll take just over one month. It shouldn't take more than about 30 minutes to and hour to write an article - sometimes even less!
Discipline is a fundamental part, if not the main part of success. I've learnt that by being highly disciplined I can stay focused on what I set out to do. Whether it be a routine that will ultimately lead to success, or even just 'getting on' with boring tasks that will also lead to success.
Also, I've just checked my search ranking in Google and this site is not doing as well as it should be. I've looked at the pages Google has in its cache for my website (by entering "site:simonbell.biz" into a Google search), and I've seen that my URLs are not search engine friendly.
For example, today's blog should read: http://www.simonbell.biz/daily-blog/Day-14-Thursday-29-January-2009.html. But the SEO friendly plug-in I'm using for Joomla isn't handling things all that well. So today I need to alter this.
From my previous experience I've seen that having friendly URLs on your website has a huge impact on where you stand in the search engines.
