Any Excuse for a Day Off

This week we've seen some of the most severe snow this country's seen in decades.

It's been all over the news; pictures, videos, snow, ice, roads closed, schools closed, everyone snowed in.

But there's one thing that I don't quite understand. Why do Brits love a good excuse to take time off work?

The roads have been extremely dangerous; slow down, drive carefuly, don't brake too suddenly, take extra care.

I've been leaving home 10mins early this week to allow for the slow driving conditions. But it's no big deal.

I really don't understand why so many people feel the need to take a day off when they could still make it to work. There's no excuse.

I read a really interesting story this morning (seen here). Shirley Bowen has never taken a day off work since she started her job 31 years ago. Personally I find that a really inspiring story. She says if the roads are closed she stays over, if it snows she leaves home early.

It's a prime example that if you love your job not only will you be a much happier person, you'll be much more commited to the work your do. On days when most people would rather sleep in you'll actually remain motivaed and focused on the work you do.

Anyway enough of my ranting! See you tomorrow at 09:00

Simon
